Child Protection Guidelines

PDF Print
Title: Child Protection Guidelines
Course Code: ...
Description:

Child Protection is everyone's business. In recent years, as a society, we have become very aware of the problem of child abuse through neglect, emotional, physical or sexual abuse.

Children First, the National Guidelines for the Protection and Welfare of Children noted that teachers, who are the main care givers to children outside the family, are particularly well placed to observe and monitor children for signs of abuse.

This workshop will aim to:

  • Promote the safety and welfare of children
  • Help teachers realise how central their role is in Child Protection
  • Familiarise teachers with Department of Education and Science (DES) Guidelines and Children First Guidelines
  • Make teachers aware of the clear procedures to follow for dealing with any concerns about possible child abuse in line with the DES Guidelines
  • Discuss the 3P's of Child Protection in school - Protection, Prevention and Practices

This workshop may be of particular interest to members of staff who have not already received the Child Protection Guidelines and Procedures in-service day offered by PPDS to Designated and Deputy-Designated Liaison Personnel in the past. It may also be of interest to newly appointed principals.

If at all possible, please bring a copy of Children First and the DES Guidelines and Procedures from your school to the workshop.

These guidelines are being revised at present but procedures as outlined in the workshop are to be followed by schools until the new guidelines are ready for dissemination.
