Early Years Literacy

Introducing participants to the role of phonological awareness in the development of literacy and exploring teaching methods and assessment in this area.  A full day's workshop will be held, presented by a SLT, providing participants with an opportunity to develop their knowledge and practical skills to promote communication for all children, but particularly to be able to support children with speech, language and/or literacy difficulties more effectively. The teaching of sight vocabulary and the use of ICT as a learning tool will also be examined. Participants will also be introduced to Aistear (NCCA) and its role as a supportive framework for developing literacy in young children. Methods of assessment for learning and assessment of learning will also be discussed and practical resources for use in the classroom will be shared.
