In the inspired setting of the historic Castlecoote House amidst the pastoral countryside of County Roscommon, the 3rd Percy French Summer School will take place between Monday 11th and Friday 15th July, 2011. The aim of the course is to create a critical thinking environment for teachers, to enable them to fully integrate the History Curriculum with Music, Art, Geography, Science and English in an enjoyable way, using the life story of Percy French.
Teachers will be enabled, together with such luminaries as Dr. Padraic Conway, Vice President UCD; Author & Journalist Tim Pat Coogan; Patsy McGarry; Dr. Julie Ann Stevens; and Dr. John Scally to name buy a few, to understand the potential of using a local hero to place SESE, Music, Art and English into a classroom setting in an enjoyable and novel way. All of this will be enhanced by wonderful local food and the haunting harp music of Teresa O'Donnell together with actor Brian Munn; tenor Brian Hoey and Michael Banahan of Rig the Jig fame.
