Community Resource Officer with Epilepsy Ireland, Catherine Caffrey, will speak about epilepsy related issues in school, including types of seizures, seizure safety, triggers, activities and considerations for your school.

• What is epilepsy and understanding what happens during a seizure
• Seizure Types and Seizure First Aid
• Understanding common triggers
• Causes of epilepsy
• Treatment of epilepsy
• When to call an ambulance
• Risk associated with activities within school and risk assessing
• What schools should consider – policy, care plans, resource, and protocols

Learning Outcomes:

• Teachers will have an understanding of epilepsy and different seizure types
• Teachers will be confident in dealing with a seizure situation
• Teachers will understand the risks and when to seek medical support

Facilitator Bio - Catherine Caffrey is a community resource officer with epilepsy Ireland. She has worked with Epilepsy Ireland since 2022 and has worked in the Social Care sector for over 15 years.
