Becoming a School of Sanctuary: Practical Tips for Schools - 26LCSP46 (Facilitator Sarah Corcoran)

This course provides practical strategies and tips for fostering a culture of welcome, safety and belonging in schools. Learn more about the core principles of the sanctuary movement, explore effective whole-school approaches and discover how to meaningfully engage students, parents and the wider school community. 

Bio - I am a secondary school teacher of German and Irish. I have fifteen years of teaching experience. I am the co-ordinator of the School of Sanctuary committee in my school and successfully led my school to becoming the first Champion School of Sanctuary in the midlands. I am also the Diversity and Inclusion Officer at my school. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the core principle and requirements of becoming a School of Sanctuary and be able to apply these within the primary and post primary context.
  • Develop practical, whole-school strategies to promote inclusion, intercultural awareness and student wellbeing.
  • Create an actionable School of Sanctuary roadmap for participants' own schools, focusing on practices that foster a culture of welcome and inclusion.
